The Workforce Incentive Program provides general practices with funding to build a sustainable and high quality health workforce, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Overview
The program aims to:
- help practices engage eligible health workers in areas of greatest need
- support eligible health workers in promoting preventative health and education programs, chronic disease management and care coordination and supported self-management
The WIP – Practice Stream includes:
- quarterly incentive payments to engage eligible health professionals
- a rural loading of up to 50%
- an annual loading for practices providing general practitioner services to Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Gold Card holders
The amount a practice gets depends on the:
- practice size
- type of eligible health professionals
- average hours eligible health professionals work each week
- type of practice and its location
What are the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible, your general practice must:
- be fully accredited or registered for accreditation against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Standards
- employ a full or part time general practitioner (GP)
- maintain at least $10 million in public liability insurance cover for the main location and each additional practice location
