Overview
Your domain name is your address on the internet (web address) and it gives you an online identity or brand. It is a valuable part of your business identity and an important marketing tool. All domain names which end in .au are registered in Australia. The Business Victoria website provides information on:
- choosing a web address name that will attract the customers you want
- checking that you are eligible for the web address you choose
- registering your chosen web address with an accredited .au registrar.
Eligibility
Domain name registration is independent and unrelated to your business name registration. There is no automatic right to register words in your business name as your domain name.
To register a .com.au or .net.au domain name, you must be a commercial entity and possess either an ACN or ABN.
Further eligibility and allocation rules apply to the various second level domains (asn.au / com.au / net.au / id.au / org.au / info.au / conf.au)
