Overview

You can use this compliance code as a practical guide for how to meet your occupational health and safety duties or obligations in relation to providing first aid facilities in the workplace. This compliance code has been made available as a source of practical guidance, to contribute to the industry state of knowledge and assist those who must comply with health and safety laws.

The information is particularly relevant if you are an employer. It is also relevant for health and safety representatives (HSRs) and employees. It uses examples and tools you can apply to your own situation.

The code includes information on:

  • the employer's duties for providing first aid facilities
  • the two optional approaches that can be used to comply with the compliance code
  • practical measures employers can use to implement Option 1: Prescribed approach
  • practical measures employers can use to implement Option 2: Risk assessment approach.

If you comply with this code, you are deemed to comply with the Act or Regulation duty covered by the code. However, this code is not mandatory and duty holders may choose to use some other way to achieve compliance.
