Overview

You will require this licence if you intend to drive a motor vehicle in Victoria. A full driver's licence is granted through various stages of competency known as learner and provisional licences. A motor vehicle includes a car, motorcycle, boat or marine vessel.

There are various classes of licence available, including:

  • car
  • motorcycle
  • marine
  • tractor
  • light rigid
  • medium rigid
  • heavy rigid
  • heavy combination
  • multi combination.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a driver's licence you must:

  • meet the minimum age requirements
  • be physically fit to drive
  • pass all the practical and theoretical examinations
  • pay the prescribed fees
  • submit a properly completed application form.

If you already have a driver's licence from another jurisdiction or country and are moving to Victoria you will need to obtain a Victorian Driver's Licence.

There may be different requirements depending on whether you have an interstate licence or an overseas licence.
